Located amidst the golden sand dunes of Findhorn Beach, Drift uses soundscapes, songs and immersive sculptures to explore themes of isolation, captivity, separation and courage.
Drift is inspired by the story of Betty Mouat, a crofter from Shetland who spent eight days drifting alone in the North Sea in a stricken coastal cutter in 1886. Drift invites us to journey across the sand, experiencing aspects of Betty’s inner-life during the ill-fated voyage. The music is an exquisite Shetland song-cycle and the installations range from tiny, authentic 19th century interiors to dream-like sculptures.
Drift has been shortlisted for three Critics’ Awards For Theatre Scotland (CATS): Best Design, Best Music and Sound, and Best Technical Presentation.
