A very special festival triple bill of independent music from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Hailing from Belfast with a sound that is self-confessed ‘hobo-chic’, singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and gramophone impresario Duke Special is once heard, never forgotten. A consummate storyteller and lyrical poet, with songs delivered in a warm Belfast brogue, Duke’s affection for the worlds of music-theatre and vaudeville shine through in his live gigs, drawing comparisons with Van Morrison at his best.
Described by John Peel as ‘the finest songwriter of his generation’, over eight solo albums and numerous collaborations, Fife’s James Yorkston has forged a reputation as one of Scotland’s most respected songwriters and performers. An old-fashioned storyteller blessed with a rare gift for melody and mood, James’ intimate live shows mix bittersweet yarns of love and liquor with humorous conversational interludes.
Glasgow-based Randolph’s Leap are purveyors of joyous brass-tinged folk-pop. Founded and fronted by Nairn-born Adam Ross, and due to release their second album in 2016, The Quietus called them ‘the next generation of witty Scottish indie pop’.
For this concert there will be musical collaborations between artists and a guest appearance by Plan B Collaborative Theatre.
