Julie Fowlis’ exquisite voice, her interpretation of Scottish Gaelic culture and ability to bring folk music out of the past and into something contemporary, dynamic and irresistible, are what have made her a genuine and multi-award winning crossover star.Julie will forever be known for singing the theme song to Brave, Disney Pixar’s multi-award winning animated film set in the ancient Highlands of Scotland. For the Festival Julie will perform with her band and especially for this opening concert will be joined by Moray flautist, Uilleann piper and composer Calum Stewart and the Nairn Gaelic Choir.

Julie has previously worked with artists of the calibre of Mary Chapin Carpenter and James Taylor, collaborated with Aled Jones and virtuoso violinist Nicola Benedetti and her long list of plaudits include nomination for BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year 2015, ‘Best Artist’ at the Songlines World Music Awards and singing live to a TV audience of around one billion people at the Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
