Barbara Nice is your average middle-aged housewife. She has five teenage kids, she ignores her husband, she reads Take a Break and enjoys hunting for bargains in Poundstretcher…and at the weekend she does a stand-up routine and occasionally goes stage-diving.
Janice Connolly was performing as Barbara Nice when spotted by Peter Kay and went on to play Holy Mary in both Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere. She has also appeared in Coronation Street playing both Dolly Gartside and Sheila Wheeler. Her radio work includes Arthur Smith’s Balham Bash where her comedy creation Barbara Nice plays the resident housekeeper and mistress of the house. In 2016 Barbara Nice moves onto the small screen in her own BBC2 sitcom with Janice staring alongside John Henshaw of The Royle Family and Early Doors fame.
