Findhorn Bay Festival proudly presents the premiere of The Hill, the latest musical adventure from Strathspey composer, multi-instrumentalist and Festival Musician-in-Residence Hamish Napier.
The fourth album in his acclaimed Strathspey Pentalogy, The Hill celebrates the mountain landscapes that feed the River Spey. Four years in the making, the project explores more than seventy Gaelic hill terms from the Central Highlands, inspiring over thirty new compositions including reels, jigs, polkas, airs, Gaelic song and piobaireachd.
A highly expressive flautist and pianist, Hamish is joined by some of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians – Fraser Stone (Old Blind Dogs, Treacherous Orchestra), Ewan Robertson (Breabach), Conal McDonagh (Inyal), James Lindsay, Iain MacFarlane (Ingrid Henderson duo, Blazin’ Fiddles) and Festival favourite Su-a Lee (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Mr McFall’s Chamber).
Blending outstanding musicianship with stories of place, language and heritage, The Hill is a powerful celebration of our connection to landscape and nature and a fitting epic finale to close the festival.
