Hooligan Chorus

5-day Performance Workshop

Were delighted to be working in partnership with Hooligan Art Community to host a 5-day creative takeover to create a new piece of contemporary performance right here in Findhorn!

This is the perfect opportunity if you have an interest in music, theatre, movement, performance and the processes behind creating new work!

Hooligan Art Community is a theatre company from Kyiv, which creates work that advocates for freedom of expression and equality. The company devises brave, unconventional theatre performances, using music, movement and text.

About the workshops

Drawing inspiration from football chants, minimalism and pop music, you will be creating music and movement for a Hooligan chorus. Guided by composer Jessie and director Peter, you will work together to co-devise a soundscape of music using your voices, bodies and breath.

You’ll explore storytelling around the hooligan themes with actor Simeon and filmmaker Liubov and the workshops will explore themes of violence and vulnerability as well as belonging, openness and collaboration.

You will be working collaboratively with the team in a professional theatre-making environment. At the end of the workshops, the new material will be shared ‘In The Round’ as part of the Findhorn Bay Festival on Sunday 29th September.

What we will provide

We will provide support for transport to Findhorn and food for workshops and on the day of the performance. Participants will also be offered complimentary tickets to a selection of Festival performances

About you

We’re looking for up to 20 young adults who will, through a series of workshops, work with the artistic team to test ideas and develop new musical material that will become central to a piece of contemporary theatre.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in a career in the arts as a performer, director, creator or producer!

Further information

International theatre group, Hooligan Art Community, are at the beginning of researching a new show. To do this, they will collaborate with young adults aged between 18-30 in a week-long takeover. The Hooligan Project is based on the experiences of Ukrainian actor, Simeon Kyslyi, who was a teenage football hooligan. In his youth, he fought against rival teams in organised clashes outside his home city of Kharkiv.

We’re interested in the ways young people seek out belonging in groups. What is the attraction of the group? And how do you keep a sense of individuality and responsibility within it? What are young adults’ experiences and ideas around identity, freedom, violence and gender today?

Were looking for anybody interested in making music and contemporary performance to join us for this exciting, fun-filled workshop. Become a hooligan with us!

What will happen

In the Creative Performance Workshop, we will sing together, eat together, move together, create songs, share ideas and develop stories, guided by Hooligan Art Communitys professional team of Ukrainian, British and German artists.

Jessie is a choral leader and composer who loves to work with untrained singing voices, especially on pop bangers and minimalist compositions.

Liuba is a film director and will explore how everyones life can be a storyline for a film.

Simeon is an actor and former hooligan contributing his skill and his own story as inspiration.

Peter is a director and writer who loves to support people to find their unique artistic voice.

We will get to know each other in a spirit of openness and collaboration, forging new friendships and creating performance material from what we discover together.

As a participant, you will:

  • learn new artistic methods from a professional team of creatives
  • be free to express ideas in the safety of the group
  • come away with new perspectives on groups and belonging

Participation is free.
